Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are at the heart of our museum operations! The Staff and Board realize that much of what NHS accomplishes is due to the efforts of our volunteers and we strive to provide a rewarding atmosphere for the many tasks that our volunteers undertake. If you’d like to make some new friends and grow your love of history, contact us and find out what volunteering at the museum is all about.

Front Desk Customer ServiceNHS is always seeking friendly, outgoing individuals to operate our front desk at the museum. Volunteers answer questions, sell merchandise, and promote museum tours and membership. Shifts vary from 3 to 7 hours and are available weekdays and weekends.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, please call 507-645-9268 or email nhsstore@northfieldhistory.org . We’d be happy to speak with you!

Board of Directors

NHS is always seeking good candidates to join our Board of Directors. In any given year, three standing board members cycle off of the board and we are in need of replacements. It is the perfect opportunity to serve the community as well as shape the direction of historical events and programming in Northfield. Board members serve three-year terms with an option to renew for a second three-year term. Terms begin in March/April as determined by the date of the annual meeting.

Board members may be male or female, young or young-at-heart, new to Northfield or lifetime residents. We ask that those interested in serving have a passion for history and a willingness to get involved and share their interest with others.

To submit yourself as a candidate for the board of directors, fill out our Board Member Application Questions.

Internships

NHS encourages students in college to consider interning with the museum. Internships can be during the school year or over the summer months. Projects depend on the needs of the staff and may change year to year. Internships are open to students with a History, Social Studies, American Studies or similar background, though all applicants will be considered. Due to the small staff size and the variety of volunteer projects taking place year-round, NHS can only accommodate a couple of interns at any given time.

To inquire about an internship, call 507-645-9268 or email a letter of interest and resume to Sean Allen at director@northfieldhistory.org
