Silver Stars, August 18The Northfield Silver Stars let a three-ace lead slip through their fingers Saturday (Aug. 18) and lost 14-10 to the Rochester Roosters in a vintage base ball match convened at the Rice County Fairgrounds in Faribault.

Wild Bill Johnson hurled four brilliant shut-out innings to hold the Roosters at bay while the Silver Stars built a 10-7 lead going into the eighth frame. But Coach Rabbit Richardson took the ball into his own hands and promptly surrendered four runs that turned the tide.
The Silver Stars got off to a good start, scoring three in the first, two in the third and four in the fourth. Hacksaw Hakala, Socks Forster and the Admiral each scored twice in the early going. Erik Burton had the big blow, a grand slam in the fourth to plate all four aces.
The Roosters proved to be formidable opponents with the willows and in the field, their short scout playing an elegant defensive game. We had a few uncharacteristic muffs which left the door open for the Roosters.
The Silver Stars will play their season finale on Saturday, Sept. 8, 1 p.m. at Old Memorial Field on Seventh Street. The St. Croix Base Ball Club down from Washington County has accepted our challenge, and we expect a competitive match from the fiesty club from the north.
