Annual Giving Letter, 2020
The kindest thing I can say about 2020 is that it has been a challenge for the Northfield Historical Society. It has been a year of shifting priorities and changing perspectives. From the water leaks to the pandemic quarantine to the virtual way our events have taken place, this has not been the year any of us expected. A year ago we were raising funds for a much-needed technology upgrade. With the pandemic, the immediate technology need became cameras, specifically webcams, to help us conduct business virtually. The replacement of computers we had anticipated was put on the back burner.
A year ago we were also raising money for our capital campaign, as we had a balloon mortgage payment coming due. The pandemic did not delay the payment, but it did actually help keep the mortgage rate low and more affordable for us for refinancing as we continue to pay off the loan. We didn’t get ahead with the payments like we hoped, but we did not fall behind, either.
Probably the brightest light for us this year has been the continued support of our membership. During times like these, the Board fully expected that our membership levels would dip, but that has not been the case. Every month we are receiving membership renewals, and this year especially, that has meant everything to us! Your loyalty keeps us motivated.
Looking ahead to 2021, it seems nonsensical to predict what the year may bring. Every plan, every event is tentative. We’re optimistic for a better year than 2020, but we are realistic, too. We are resetting and recovering, and we would love your support with that. Will you consider contributing to NHS’s continued success within our community today?
