Motion pictures, invented in 1895, produced new exhibitors and audiences all across America.  In the small town of Northfield, Minnesota, itinerant showmen were the first to project films during medicine shows and stage performances at Lockwood Opera House and the Ware Auditorium.

Connecting the local experience to larger currents in industry and culture, this is the story of how the movies entred into and became everyday life for citizens in one small Midwestern community.
