History Hound Walk

Keep up with the Nuttings on the History Hound Walk June 25
Prairie’s Edge Humane Society and the Northfield Historical Society are once again partnering this year to present the History Hound Walk — a dog-walking tour that will include 11 of Northfield’s historic homes. Paws will hit the pavement June 25, and registration will begin at Central Park at 8:30 a.m. Tours will be held every hour and rotate between human-only an pet-friendly: 8:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m. (pet-friendly), 10:45 a.m., and 11:45 a.m. (pet-friendly). Participants also may walk the route on their own.

Cost is $20.00 per person; pets and kids 15 and under walk for free. All registered pets will receive a treat bag, and snacks will be available for humans.

Although having a pet is not required for participation, any and all leashed, friendly, and vaccinated pets are welcome. Proceeds will benefit Prairie’s Edge Humane Society and the Northfield Historical Society.
An example of the stories walkers will hear concerns the Nutting Home, built in 1888 and currently the residence of the president of Carleton College. Apparently Mrs. Nutting wanted to have the tallest house on the east side, so when a neighbor built a taller house she added enough to the Nutting home to keep it the tallest.
