Walk Across the River
Hundreds gathered as John and Anne North (portrayed by Chip DeMann and Marion Hvistendahl) kicked off Northfield's Sesquicentennial Celebration Jan. 29 with an evening walk across the river, commemorating John's vision of Northfield 150 years ago, and Anne and the children's arrival a year later.
Amid sparklers, drums and a Color Guard, Mayor Lee Lansing lead the Bridge Square crowd in the Pledge of Alleigiance. The Sesquicentennial Committee provided hot chocolate and hand-warming fires. Most of the crowd, then, proceeded to the Grand for an evening of hospitality and information on the year ahead.
