My First Blog
Hello all, My name is Hayes Scriven, I am the Northfield Historical Society's Education and Exhibit Coordinator. One of my many jobs here at NHS is going to be to keep this weblog up-to-date. I will be posting many things on this blog. One of the things I will be posting on here will be our rotating window displays. I am in charge of designing and building the window displays. I will also try and keep you up-to-date on other events that take place here at NHS and in Northfield.
Well, enough of that, I was told I should do a bio of my self so everyone who reads this blog would know who I am.
I was born in Minneapolis, to Mark and Sue Scriven. The first few years of my life we moved around and my parents had my sister, Mariah. We moved around until we found a home in Nerstrand MN. While in Nerstrand I grew up dreaming of what I wanted to be. I wanted to be a pro football player and a police man in the off-season. I never dreamed I would be working at a historical society. Wow! Am I glad I am here. I guess, my love of history started when my high school history teacher taught history in a different way than it had been taught to me before. It just clicked with me better than anything had before. It was about this time that I realized that my grandparents had a passion for history. My Grandpa was a history teacher at St. Louis Park along with my Step-Grandma who is also a noted history author. On the other side of the family my grandparents were history buffs as well. I guess it was just in my blood that I would be in the history profession too. After I graduated from Kenyon-Wanamingo High School in 2001, I was accepted to the University of Minnesota Duluth. I served my four year term up there getting my degree in history and falling in love with the game of hockey! In Duluth I learned how a small-town museum operated. In my last semester I interned at the Richard I. Bong Heritage Center in Superior Wisconsin. I went on to graduate from UMD in May of 2005. A couple of weeks later I was in conversation with NHS for a job and I was hired in June. I have gone from being half time to full time since being hired. Another thing about this past fall, I got engaged to my girlfriend of 6 years, Jenny Wille. We are planning to get married Nov. 18 2006. Well, that is me in a nutshell. If you want to learn more about me or what is going on at the historical society come on down and you can talk to me any time or you can email at scriven@northfieldhistory.org. I hope my first blog went ok and I hope this is the first of many on this website. Between Mark Fagerwick (my boss) and me we will try and update this blog every week. So come back and check out what is new at NHS.
