Silver Stars silence the Roosters in vintage base ball game
The Northfield Silvers Stars defeated the Rochester Roosters 18-3 in a vintage baseball game last Saturday at the Dundas Sesquicentennial celebration.
Before an appreciative crowd of 200, the Silver Stars scored in every inning but the sixth. Christian Hakala had a big day swinging the willow. He had four hits, including two triples and a double. Scott Richardson and Bryan Levin made Silver Star history by striking back-to-back homeruns in the fourth. David Appleyard hurled for the Silver Stars and kept a muscular Rooster team in check with the help of good fielding by Jeff Silkey, Mike Lane, Paul Richardsons, Jim Lovrien and Dan Hagen.
The Silver Stars next play the St. Croix Base Ball Club on the Fourth of July in a match that will begin at 1 p.m. at St. Olaf College, the corner of Lincoln and Second Street. There is no admission.
