Auction Logo

This November, a very special Northfield Historical Society event will take place-- an event that will transport you back to an era characterized by American prosperity and optimism, bath tub gin, the model T, $5.00 work day, the first transatlantic flight, Prohibition and the Charleston! Please join us on November 21st at the Northfield Golf and Country Club for the Roaring 20's Themed Annual Auction Gala and Speakeasy in support of the Northfield Historical Society.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for our Roaring 20's Speakeasy themed gala! This is a not to be missed event! Be sure to come early to make sure you get one of the limited number of feather boas (red, black or white), beaded necklaces, headband with feather or fedora hats! Roaring 20's attire is encouraged and there is a costume contest! Start your Christmas shopping early and shop often, as there are some wonderful items up for bid on both the silent and live auctions. Imagine being the winning bidder on a ghost tour of St. Olaf College, or a Pub Crawl with Archer House Owner, Brett Reece, an original Arneson painting or a gourmet dinner for eight at the Archibald Inn in Dundas! One lucky bidder will have the honor of having a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus! Enjoy history with a private tour for 12 of the Northfield Historical Society complete with wine and appetizers! Two lucky bidders will also win a chance to see Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelsen, Sergio Garcia and others at the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. Be sure to check out one of the many gift baskets available whether you're a dog lover, car aficionado, cook, baker, beer connoisseur or lover of fine wine!

We will be accepting sealed bids at the Northfield Historical Society until 4:00 p.m. on November 20th for the Arneson Painting.

This is the Northfield Historical Society’s only fundraiser. All funds raised go to continue our mission of preserving and interpreting Northfield's unique history! Tickets for this “not to be missed” event are $25.00 until November 13th and $30.00 after the 13th and at the door. Tickets are available at the Northfield Historical Society (call or stop by) or at the door.  We can be reached at 507-645-9268 or through the contact us page.

More Information on registration, route, music, lodging and prizes to come!

The Northfield Historical Society invites you to come ride the escape route of the notorious James-Younger Gang, but this time, they are riding steel horses!

On September 7, 1876, the Gang, led by Jesse and Frank James and the Younger brothers, attempted a bank raid on the First National Bank of Northfield.  While the raid was in progress, the townspeople rounded up their firearms and fought back.  When the fighting stopped, two Northfielders had been ruthlessly murdered by the Gang, and two of the outlaws lay dead in the streets.  The largest manhunt in U.S. History (at that point) ensued.  The Younger brothers were captured in a slew outside of Madelia, MN, while the Jesse and Frank escaped to meet their fate at a later day.

Saturday, August 28, 2010 riders will saddle up on their motorcycles and follow part the rout the Gang used on their ill-fated robbery attempt.  The event begins with a recreation of the robbery.  Then the riders will follow the trail down the old Dodd Road to Elysian.  On the way back, we'll water the horses at Lexington and Millersburg, before returning to Northfield for a post-rally party with prizes at the Reub-N-Stein.

Everyone is welcome to come along.  The cost is just $20.00 per rider, and includes an Outlaw Run t-shirt plus free admission to the Northfield Historical Society for the day.
