Online Oral Histories

across-the-pond-3.jpgI would to announce that the Northfield Historical Society will be posting oral histories we have been conducting over the past year and half on our website. You can view them by clicking here. Right now the only history we have up is Maggie Lee's . It is a two part history, but it is filled with wonderful information on Maggie's life and the history of Northfield. So check it out, and if you have any questions or want to be involved with NHS and our oral history program please contact us.

Maggie Lee

This Oral History is of Maggie Lee. Maggie, talks about her life in Northfield and why the color purple is so important to her.

Online Oral Histories

In 2005, the Northfield Historical Society started collecting oral histories during Northfield's sesquicentennial celebration. This project was able to continue thanks to a WINGS grant in 2006. Between 2006 and early 2007 the Northfield Historical Society conducted 11 interviews. All of the interviews will be posted on our website. More will be on the way. If you would like to get involved with the project please contact us by calling 507-645-9268 .

Bones: Northfield Update

KateA few weeks ago the Northfield News ran a story called Bones: Northfield. The story was about a new forensic investigation into a skeleton located here at the Northfield Historical Society since the early 1980's. Dr. Kate Blue, a Forensic Anthropologist at Mankato State University (MSU) and Dr. James Bailey, a Political Science and Law Enforcement Professor at MSU came to NHS in early December to do a preliminary investigation on the skeleton. You can review their Preliminary Report here. On January 31, 2008 the skeleton took a trip down to Mankato for a more in depth investigation into the skeleton. On February 8th the Mankato Free Press ran a story about the skeleton's journey to MSU.Skeleton in Mankato

Our goal for this investigation is to get a better understanding of this person. We would like to do a facial re-construction of the skull to put a face on the remains. If you would like to donate to NHS for this project please send a check to; Northfield Historical Society, 408 Division Street, Northfield, MN 55057. Or contact us by calling us at 507-645-9268

We will keep you posted on any further developments.
