Autographed copy of Caught in the Storm
Since the fall of 2004, a select group of 8th grade students (26 in all) from the Northfield Middle School in Northfield, Minnesota have been researching and writing a history and travel guide that chronicles the drama of the James and Younger Gang in their attempt to get out of Minnesota after the failed robbery at the First National Bank. The book entitled, "Caught in the Storm" portrays those two weeks when the wounded outlaws, under dark and rainy skies, journeyed over one hundred miles in their attempt to get out of Minnesota and to a safe hiding place. For gang encountered rain-swollen rivers, unsuspecting citizens, the largest posse in U. S. history, and the most harrowing adventure of their lives. Frank and Jesse escaped on September 14, but the remaining outlaws would meet their defeat a week later at the shootout at Hanska Slough.
This book not only serves as a stand-alone history, but for the first time, allows the reader all the information necessary to travel the route from the gang's escape out of Northfield to the final shootout at Hanska Slough. Complete with maps, driving directions, and GPS coordinates, and current photos, the traveler can personally see the sites and learn the story that made this one of the most significant dramas in outlaw history.
