The Introduction to Latino Studies class at Carleton College, presents a portrait of The Changing Face of Latinos in Northfield. The exhibit includes a look at the past, present and future place of Latinos within the community. El pasado shows glimpses of where people are from, accenting the states of Veracruz and Puebla in Mexico from which many Northfield residents came. Among other things, it touches on different economic and social reasons Latinos have settled here and the creation of Spanish Mass at St. Dominick’s Church. El presente attempts to capture the diverse Latino population in Northfield today. This section includes pictures, quotes, demographics and stories from community members. It also provides an overview of several programs in the school and community offered for Latinos. El Futuro focuses on the Latino youth of Northfield and their goals. Artwork, photos and quotes display the direction and aspirations of their future and in turn, the future of Northfield.
