Another smashing success at NHS!
Submitted by hayes on Mon, 02/27/2006 - 22:32."The History of Latinos in Northfield" was a great success! I would like to thank everyone that came out to NHS last Thursday. There was an estimated 40 people in attendance. The students from the Intro to Latino studies class at Carleton did a wonderful job in designing the display. The students gave a very insightful presentation and carried themselves very well. I would like to thank Adriana Estill and her students once again and I would also like to thank Carleton's ACT center and everyone else that help put on this presentation. Here are some pictures from the night.

--Northfield Latino Community
The Introduction to Latino Studies class at Carleton College, presents a portrait of The Changing Face of Latinos in Northfield. The exhibit includes a look at the past, present and future place of Latinos within the community. El pasado shows glimpses of where people are from, accenting the states of Veracruz and Puebla in Mexico from which many Northfield residents came. Among other things, it touches on different economic and social reasons Latinos have settled here and the creation of Spanish Mass at St. Dominick’s Church. El presente attempts to capture the diverse Latino population in Northfield today. This section includes pictures, quotes, demographics and stories from community members. It also provides an overview of several programs in the school and community offered for Latinos. El Futuro focuses on the Latino youth of Northfield and their goals. Artwork, photos and quotes display the direction and aspirations of their future and in turn, the future of Northfield.
